Behind the shot - The London Eye

The London Eye at dusk

I used to work adjacent to this iconic landmark. I decided that I would take a photo and planned the shot to include some color from the sunset. In February the sun sets directly behind the wheel from this location. The added advantage is that the trees are bare and don't dominate the scene as they do during the Summer months.

I opted for a 30 second exposure to allow for some movement in the wheel as it turned slowly (The wheel completes one turn every 30 minutes) The length of exposure also helped remove pedestrians that walked through the scene constantly. As long as they moved during exposure they were not recorded.

On this occaision some of the wheel was not illuminated and it was therefore necessary to time the shot for when the dead section was hidden behind the building on the left of the Photo.
