Autumn Color

I was able to get out briefly today to grab some quick snaps...  This is the first time I've been out with a camera for a while and it was good to get some shots even though this was just the GF3 rather than the D3 on this occaision.

This lake shot was taken at Claremont Gardens in Surrey... edited in NIK software Color Efex 4

NIK Software

It's sadly not too often that a company impresses with their customer service, but NIK Software have exceeded my expectations today with their support and help.

NIK Softwares Snapseed

NIK have just launched an iPad application that lets you tweak photos to perfection with Tune Image or selectively adjust only a part of your photo with revolutionary Control Points. Add incredible effects with innovative filters like Drama, Vintage, and Grunge. Share photos with your friends and family with social network support, or print your photos directly in Snapseed.

I have tried it out on one of my recent snaps from Yosemite National Park and you can see the before and after versions below. There are countless options to play with and some informative instructional videos on NIKs site Snapseed

My example shot had 'drama' added and then 'grunge' which adds some textures and vignette effects, it's fun to use and innovative

Purchased HDR Efex Pro

Having played around with NIK Softwares HDR Efex Pro for a week or so, I decided to go ahead and buy a licence. I have Photomatix Pro 4.1 but found the ease of use of HDR Efex Pro and the photo-realistic results useful.

The Alignment and de-ghosting features are not perfect, but they can usually be coerced into producing a good render with a little bit of experimentation.

i.e. Sometime the Alignment option is best left off when images are already aligned (e.g. taken on a tripod) and even in NIK's own documentation they make reference to de-ghosting sometimes being better off than on.

Overall I am pleased with HDR Efex Pro and being a frequent user of their other great applications I find the interface powerful and familiar.
